How Do I Get Ready for “Home Shopping”?
Things may seem so out of sorts right now, but some things remain constant and you can take comfort in some cornerstone tips on how to begin your home search.
Do your research/preparation – Get in touch with a lender to get pre-approved for a mortgage. Having a pre-approval letter from your lender will make an offer to a seller more attractive.
Remember the “perfect” time to buy may not exist – If you are trying to predict what the housing market or interest rates are going to be the best, you may never start your search or offer on your perfect house. Find the time that is right for you and make your “move”.
Set your priorities – Floorplan, fenced yard, location, square footage. The chances of finding a home that checks every single box is probably not going to be realistic. Decide what you can and cannot compromise and focus on what is most important to you.
Don’t listen to outside interest – you have so many people in your lives who care about you and your family and have your best interest in mind but you have to decide on what is important for you and the other that will actually be living in the home.
Don’t be a deal killer – Once you have found the house you love don’t try to out negotiate everyone else at the expense of killing the entire deal, be willing to see both sides and understand the end game should be a win-win for all parties.
These are all points to begin to consider when you are getting started and as you go through the home searching process.
